Icy Morning on the Lake
I live in California where it rarely gets drops below 32F. But when it gets cooler, I often think of the Netherlands, where I grew up. I remember cold winters there. Although nothing like Canada or Alaska temperatures, I remember it being pretty darn cold, certainly well below freezing (I remember scraping the car was a lot harder!). Temperatures like -7C (19F) were quite common and I even recall one very cold winter which brought -17C (1F). So, eventhough I am wearing sweaters here in California and I hear the heater coming on more frequently than normal, I remind myself that California is still a much warmer place to live than Holland. Cold can create pretty sceneries to photograph though and this photo is one from my home-town. As you can see the lake is frozen solid and there were people skating later that day. This was taken in the morning on a beautifully crisp day.
