Dutch Bike and Windmills
When thinking of Holland, it’s hard to imagine a more iconic picture than this. A bike, green fields and windmills. OK, perhaps some tulips would really have finished it off. This was a scene taken at De Zaansche Schans, in the Netherlands. That basket was originally used by bakers. They would cycle door-to-door, delivering fresh bread. Now these kinds of bikes have evolved and are great to carry “stuff” in (also make for great picnic baskets). If you’ve ever been to Holland, you will know that EVERYONE rides a bike there so having something to carry your stuff in is very practical. The country has no hills so getting around is pretty easy. Towns and cities are also pretty congested so a car is often a real nuisance.
